Cohen has worked for newspapers and also as a public relations professional for the computer industry. His by-lined stories have appeared in the Contra Costa Times, Los Angeles Times, Newsday and the Daily News.

His work on trends in Jewish-American fiction appeared in Midstream magazine, and his historical work has been featured in The Turkish Studies Association Bulletin, History of Photography, and the Journal of Jewish Studies.

Cohen has delivered talks on Sephardic folklore, culture, and history at Jewish community centers, synagogues, libraries, and colleges across the country.
